Belhaven Hill School

A Full Boarding & Day School for Boys and Girls aged 7-13 years

Academic Excellence

Belhaven provides an exceptional, all-round education with lots of inspiring teaching.

Our strong academic team focuses on developing each individual child and our small class sizes mean there are many opportunities to excel.

We also have a reputation for providing very good Support for Learning. This Support is about enabling our pupils to be the best they can be and giving them the skills and strategies they need to excel in an increasingly demanding world.

As a result, boys and girls from Belhaven are consistently strong academically and are well prepared for whichever secondary school they choose to go to.

Outstanding Scholarship and Common Entrance Results 2019

Belhaven Hill School’s Common Entrance and Scholarship results were once again outstanding last year. All 24 boys and girls, aged 12 to 13, were accepted into their first choice senior schools in Scotland and England.

11 Scholarships and Exhibitions were won in total.

Senior schools where Awards were gained included: Radley, Merchiston, Oundle, Glenalmond and Fettes.

Common Entrance successes included Eton, Rugby, Stowe, Loretto, Harrow, Tudor Hall and Strathallan. In three quarters of the subjects studied, over 75% of the grades were A* / A / B (with Latin and History both over 95%).

Henry Knight, Headmaster, says:

This year’s outstanding Common Entrance and Scholarship results once again demonstrate Belhaven's long-established pedigree in preparing our children for the very best senior schools in Britain. I congratulate them all. This is a fabulous testament to their hard work and sheer determination.

Our boys and girls continue to produce outstanding results, both inside and outside the classroom: it’s not just about exams. Far from it, in fact. It’s also very much about taking part in art, music and drama together with consistent sporting excellence. All of these successes reflect what Belhaven is really about: our values help foster the success of our all-round approach to education - ambition, determination, perseverance, camaraderie, a life-long interest in the environment, and a good old fashioned approach to manners.
