U11 Girls' v Edinburgh Academy
Belhaven 3 - Edinburgh Academy 0

An excited and determined team of girls arrived at Edinburgh Academy and after a quick warm up, were ready to start their first match of the term. For Edinburgh Academy, this was their first ever girls hockey match and what an exciting start for both teams.
Edinburgh Academy took the first pass and quite soon Amelia was onto the ball looking for Mairi and Jeanie for a pass. Some accurate passes between the players and Jeanie soon attempted a shot at goal. The Academy defence cleared the ball and the match became pretty even. Passing the ball between the players Grizel and Abigail were a great link in the mid field. Rosabel and Sophie W-M were secure in defence and the few attempts the Academy attack had at goal, the Belhaven defence cleared the ball pretty quickly. With just a few minutes to go before half time, Jeanie scored the goal she had been desperate to score, from that start of the game. By half time, Belhaven were leading 1 – 0.
As they began the second half, both teams remained focused as the ball travelled around the pitch amongst the players. As the Academy began their attack, Grizel and Annabel were there to stop them. Some footwork errors in the circle gave away a free hit, and the defence were slightly unready as the Academy took some shots at goal. Sophie B was determined not to let any balls into the goal and made some super saves. A tremendous free hit from Rosabel reached Jeanie who was waiting in our goal area and she passed the ball quickly to Amelia who scored. Great excitement amongst the girls and soon after a third goal from Mairi ended the game.
What an exciting first match girls – both teams played very hard and fought well for the ball. Things to work upon girls, include moving and dribbling with the ball now instead of just passing it straight away. Lots to work on for the next match – you can do it!
Man of the match – Jeanie Gibbs for excellent all round play and being determined throughout to score more goals!
