U9 v Loretto
The A team took to the pitch first and, immediately, it was clear that all six players were entirely focused, so much so that the first goal arrived within seconds of Loretto’s push back, thanks to strong early pressure from Murray and George. A second soon followed good early passes and George swept the ball in with a flourish.
The game barely two minutes old and the boys were already cruising in their minds...
So it was no surprise that Loretto hit two of their own to square things up before half time. They were not here for the ride!
After the break, Loretto gave as good as they got and took the lead following some swift passing: 3-2!
That stung the Belhaven boys into action and they fought back, equalised and carried on from there, scoring 6 more goals to Loretto’s 2 in a fast and furious final third of the match, to emerge as clear winners by 9 goals to 5.(Murray and George sharing the goals almost equally: 4 and 5 respectively). Ross and Jock S were a strong midfield whilst Freddie and Angus proved to be a very solid defensive line.
Well done the A team!
The B match was a more tentative affair, both teams needing more time and space on the ball than the opposition would allow!
Sebastian tried hard, as did Donald in defence, but it was all a bit haphazard at times! Nonetheless, persistence, concentration and a bit of luck produced the first goal of the match for Rex just before half time:1-0 at the break.
After the break, Mungo and Duncan began to assert themselves more in midfield and, Rex having discovered his scoring touch, helped by strong support from Alexander, the goals began to roll in, 5 of them to be precise. Loretto also got on the score sheet twice, despite very good, solid defending from Jock W-M assisted by Jack. Final score 6-2.
Well done the B team!
All in all, this was a very enjoyable afternoon, both teams showing good skills and determination. A good start to the term.
