Lost 2 – 3 Goals – George Cuthbert, Will Jack
We have the making of a very good side this year but there is much work to be done to include positional structure to the industrious purpose the boys have in abundance.
Stick work is needed and more strength in the tackle will provide possession that needs to be distributed with more speed, accuracy and direction.
Our opponents kept and passed the ball better than us today. This was complimented by an ability to maintain their team shape whilst Belhaven hunted in packs for the ball. With a little more awareness and practice the boys’ anticipation of where the ball is going will improve.
Will and George tucked away our only two chances of the first half. Both goals illustrated the importance of them making themselves available high up the pitch instead of coming deep to scrap for possession. Both boys took their chances very well.
Ardvreck pulled a goal back just before half time and it was thoroughly deserved. Geordie had made some excellent saves followed up by long and effective clearnces. Geordie performed equally well in the second half and made one super double save in particular.
As our boys tired in the second half the team shape was disrupted even more and Ardvreck exposed some defensive frailties to pinch a couple of goals. Their superior positional play and distribution of the ball deservedly won them the game for them but I must mention our Captain Rory Barnes who played with great skill and tried to create a flowing and wide pattern to our game. We will be better next match.
