'Where are you?' - Hockey in the mist!

What an eventful afternoon we had as the girls ventured South to play Mowden. Arriving later than expected, the girls had very little time to warm up and as result, the first few minutes of their game became the warm up. Unfortunately Mowden scored within the first minute and the girls were then ready to fight back. Rosabel and Sophie WM were a solid defence and the few times the Mowden attack came near the goal, the ball was cleared away very quickly. Grizel worked very hard as midfield and showed of some great stickwork and play as she dodged the opposition. Abigail was always free on the wing and Amelia and Jeanie were desperate to score a goal. For the majority of the first half, Belhaven had possession of the ball in their attacking half and circle but could not manage to score a goal. By half time, Mowden were leading by 1 goal.

The U11 team began the second half full of determination to equal the score with every member of the team, aiming for a shot at goal. Mairi was a strong link in the midfield and Annabel made some good tackles against the opposition. Sophie B made some super saves, clearing the ball wide of the goal each time. Again, Belhaven took possession of the ball for much of the game but as with the first half, they aimed wide of the goal! An accident half way in the second half, saw Rosabel sit out for the rest of the game. The free hit which was taken just after allowed Mowden to score. The Belhaven girls, still a little flustered and hoping that Rosabel was alright, unfortunately lost their focus and with another hit to the ankle for Sophie, the rest of the team checking she was alright, our goal was left undefended and Mowden scored again.

An unlucky match for you this time girls. However the final score does not reflect the hard work and determination you put into the game.  I was particularly pleased with the way you used your new skills we have been practising and I think that your supporting parents would agree, you played a great game.

Before our next match we will need to work on passing the ball in the circle and aiming for the goal!
Come on girls we can do it!

Man of the Match - Rosabel for being a strong defender, running up the pitch and aiming for goal and then running back to defend

Most Improved Player this match - Grizel for displaying great stickwork and using her new skills at every opportunity
