U11 Girls' Hockey v ardvreck

Belhaven 4 - Ardvreck 0

hockey v ardvreck

What a terrific match this was for the girls today – all the members of the team played with determination and were keen to win the match right from the first whistle. Taking the first centre pass, Amelia passed the ball to Grizel who took advantage of the open space and managed to dribble up the pitch before passing to Jeanie. A few attempts at goal and Jeanie finally got the goal she deserved. Again taking much of the play, Mairi and Abigail worked well, passing the ball up the wing and tackling players who came their way. Some footwork in our attacking circle and we made full use of our short corner, and Jeanie shot at goal again. Rosabel and Sophie were kept busy in defence as the Ardvreck team, made some good passes down the pitch. The ball was just not going to get past these defenders as they made sure that if the ball came anywhere near them, it was soon cleared. At times they were daring as they ventured further up the pitch, leaving their circle undefended with just Sophie B in Goal. As Annabel swapped on, she immediately made her mark on the match as within minutes, she had the ball in the circle and made a shot at goal – and to her amazement she scored and was terribly proud of her goal. By half time, Belhaven were in the lead, just what Jeanie wanted!

As the second half began, Ardvreck had now warmed up and were keen to start attacking. Sophie B had a little more action in goal, and made a few great saves. Again, Rosabel took many of the free hits and with Jeanie waiting in our attacking circle, she was there ready to score again. Playing on the right wing made a huge difference to the game today. With pretty even play during the second half, Mairi, Grizel and Amelia were keen to score again. Passing the ball accurately between them, Mairi was soon shooting for the goal and was on target. A fourth goal and the girls were over the moon. By the end of the game, the girls were beaming with smiles having won their match.

Well done girls – what a difference in your game today. You were a ‘dream team’ this match girls! You raised the standard of your game – spacing well for the ball, passing accurately and working superbly as a team, encouraging each other throughout the match. Now you know you can do it – let’s focus on the match on Wednesday and play like you did today.
