Compass X-C @ Preston hall
Three U10 boys, three U10 girls, three U11 boys and three U11 girls represented the school for this event run in the beautiful surroundings of Preston Hall, on a cold but sunny afternoon, perfect for running. There were eight schools (24 runners) in each race.
In the U10 girls’race , Emilia led at a fast pace from the start, with Cassia poised in third place and Miranda close behind until about half-way when fatigue altered things a little and in the final run in, Emilia placed 2nd, Cassia 4th and Miranda 6th, for a score of 12 points which gave Belhaven 1st place in the team competition! So very well done all three girls!
The U10 boys were next up: Jamie set a very fast pace from the off with George close behind and Sam a little further down. Having established a lead, Jamie then had a brain storm and went the wrong way! By the time he’d realised, he was way off the pace and trailed in a sad 15th. Meanwhile, George kept up his pace and finished 6th with Sam a creditable 9th, Belhaven gaining 3rd place in the team competition. Well done all three boys!
It was now up to the U11 girls to take up the challenge, which they did magnificently, running a tight team race to secure 2nd place overall with Sophie 2nd, Grizel 4th and Abi 9th. Well done the U11 girls!
And so to the U11 boys who also were in the top 4 or 5 runners from the start eventually finishing as follows: Ollie 4th, Will 6th and Wills 8th to gain 2nd place in the team race. Well done the U11 boys!
Finally, thanks to Rachel for her expert marshalling!
