Under 10 BoYS HOCKEY v Loretto

A team  Lost 0-2

Following last week's somewhat one-sided matches, it was time to try to set the record straight with Loretto for the under ten boys. And early signs in the A team game were good - Christian Thomson in goal had made some excellent saves to deny scoring opportunities for the visitors but, on the whole the match was evenly balanced with chances for both sides. Alistair Prenter's mighty hits from the back were proving a valuable weapon, and on more than one occasion they turned defence into immediate attack, with Jamie Willoughby coming close on a couple of occasions. Loretto were beginning to find their stride, however, and finally broke the deadlock just before half time with a good passing move and an excellent finish past Christian. They followed this up with a second just after the break, but we bravely defended - Constantin de Rosen chasing back on at least four or five occasions to deny Loretto any further goals. A massive improvement then in a week, and much to be proud of for the A team.

B team Lost 0-5

The B team match was a fast-paced and exciting affair. With no goalkeepers, both sides quickly decided that shooting early was a very good option, and there were a great many shots fired in at the goal from inside and outside the circle in the opening exchanges. The defence of Alistair Gimlette and Sam Thomlinson had much to do early on, but were dogged in defence, trying to stop the Loretto forwards from reaching the goal. Eventually, however, Loretto broke through to score, and followed this up with a quick second before half time. Murray de Klee beavering away up front, trying to get hold of any clearance, and with a bit of luck might have had a couple of goals. He did put the ball into the Loretto goal twice, but both times unluckily from jut outside the circle. In the second half, Loretto found their stride and scoring touch, but as with the A team, the Bs had certainly made an improvement.
