Eco EAGLES

"Keeping an eagle eye on the environment!"

Thanks to Belhaven pupils going bananas through Fairtrade Fortnight, we have achieved our Silver Level Eco Award!

We achieved our Silver Level Award through completing the following activities:

* Participating in Fairtrade Fortnight by having a 'Go Bananas' Week.

* Recycling paper, aluminium, glass, cardboard (cereal boxes) and collecting   old clothes for recycling through Rag Bag.

* Sustaining our wider world by sponsoring a pupil in India through School and University. Money for this and Scottish Love in Action has been largely raised by the sale of Christmas cards made by the pupils.

* At the Spring Fair in February, Senior girls had a stall selling their handmade jewellery and recycled organic cotton shopping bags which raised £135 for The Pipar Project.

* Cleaning up part of our Local Community by litter collecting in John Muir Country Park.

* Promoting Healthy Eating in School - Smoothie Sundae.

* Running a Poster Competition for the Eco Eagles to produce posters to encourage the rest of the School to be Eco conscious and energy efficient.

* Pupils in Form 3 are taking part in the John Muir Explorer Award. They have adopted the car park at John Muir Country Park, are organising litter clean ups and are learning about National Parks around the World.

Everyone across the school is working together to help our local environment and wider community, with the Eco Eagles Commitee putting our ideas into action! The Eco Eagles has been established with Pupils from each year group attending at regular intervals.
