U11 Girls v Loretto
Belhaven 1 - Loretto 2

A beautifully sunny afternoon the girls looked forward to playing another game of hockey. Several things to remember this game – follow the ball through when hitting it, getting back and defending and running for the ball rather than sitting back and watching. They knew this could be a tough match as they had seen Loretto play on Monday.
Loretto won the toss and began the game. The Belhaven girls were soon following the ball around the pitch and trying to intercept the ball wherever possible. Amelia and Grizel worked hard, picking up free balls and feeding them to Jeanie. Rosabel proved to be a valuable ‘free hitter’, giving us advantage of the pitch with some amazing free hits. Abigail was kept busy on her side of the pitch, dribbling the ball along well looking for spaces. Mairi too, was always free to receive the balls which came her way. The Loretto attack were strong and some great passes from them allowed the ball to be in their attacking circle and aiming for goal. Great saves by Sophie but one ball managed to get into the back of the net. A quick turnaround by the Belhaven girls and they soon managed to equalise. By half time the scores were even.
During the second half, the girls fought back. Annabel played a more defensive game and Sophie WM ventured furthered out of the circle to get some more action on the ball. A very evenly played second half, with Jeanie and Amelia just missing out on goals Loretto managed a second goal with a little help from our defence!
A great game from both teams – you girls are still a little timid at times. You still need to go in for a tackle and keep your eyes on the ball at all times, especially when free hits are taken.
Look forward to Saturday and the tournament – if you put your mind to it, keep focused and remember to go for it and play your best.
Man of the match – Grizel for some fantastic all round play.
