1st rounders v loretto
Belhaven 23 – Loretto 2 ½

What a way to start the term – a gloriously sunny afternoon and a first victory for the rounders season. What more could you ask for?
The girls – anxious about batting first, as fielding is always the better option to go for, took their bats to the box. Daisy led the way, batting first is always difficult and she played it safe. Next, a half rounder from Trea followed by rounders from Claudia and Katya’s fantastic left handed hits and the scores were rolling. Talking to each other around the pitch, they played carefully and not taking too many risks. By the end of the first innings, Trea had been caught out, Kitty was unfortunately stumped out at second and the whole team had scored at least half a rounder, totalling to 13 rounders for the first batting innings.

Swapping over and now fielding, the Loretto team had some strong batters and this kept our deep fielders ready on their toes. Any non hitters were soon caught out as Franny passed the ball to Lydia D at first post. Great thinking in one go saw a Loretto batter out at first and then another at fourth post – great one girls! Super catches from Grace, Franny and Trea saw a further three batters out and soon the whole team were out before time.
Daisy began the second batting innings with a cracking hit and scored a rounder straight away. With great hitting from every girl again, rounders and half rounders kept coming. The cricket spectators need to watch out in the next home match as hits from Lydia D, Trea and Daisy kept missing them only by a narrow margin. Half rounders from Emily, Lydia M and Franny soon added to the score. A further ten rounders this innings made an impressive final score.
The final batting for Loretto saw the Belhaven fielders play their hardest and show their talents. With Daisy now bowling, a small first hit and she caught out batter number one. Failing to score off their hits, Loretto struggled for points. Any non hitters were soon stumped out at first post – Ness and Lydia D scored a hat trick, three non hitters one after the other. Scoring just half a rounder this innings, Loretto were all out before time.
Well done girls – what a great way to start the season. You have now made my selected for a squad for the first team even more difficult. Each of you played your hardest and have the potential to be a great team – let’s hope we can have a successful term.
Player of the match – Lydia D
