Under 11 rounders v loretto

Belhaven 13.5   Loretto 5.5

Under 11 v compass

Another great win for the Under 11 girls. Both their fielding and batting was very impressive for so early on in the season and every girl added to our total of rounders.

Annabel Wailes Fairbairn took the catch of the match with a casual one handed action. Rosabel Kilgour and Jeanie Gibbs proved to be the best hitters on the day with Sophie Walker Munro, Mairi Donaldson and Amelia Cookson showing a lot of promise. Sophie Benson was very reliable with her catching being positioned at the 'silly point' position as well as fourth post. Abigail Pooley showed Loretto her excellent fielding and her accurate throwing while Grizel Hocknell is showing herself to be a very natural backstop even though there are a lot of decisions to make!

Match report written by Mairi Donaldson and Sophie Benson.

It was our second match of the term and it was not a good start as Mairi (captain) loss the toss again! As we were batting Moo started us off with an amazing whole rounder. We were all screaming from teh sideline 'come on, come on' as we Belhaven girls do. Jeanie turned up the opposition's pressure meter. As a left hitter she hit the ball near first post and ran for it. We were all screaming worrying we were going to lose our only left hitter. True to Gibbs, she risked it and got the team a further rounder. We continued to score well although sadly a few of us were caught out.

Next we started fielding. Everyone was on their tiptoes trying to work out how good Loretto were at batting as we had not played them for a while. Our confidence was boosted when Annabel made an effortless one handed catch. We were all scared it had hurt her and that she would drop it, but she proved us all wrong. Working hard together calling for the ball (a lot) we continued to get a good half of Loretto's team out.

The second innings started and we were all batting with much more strife and sonfidence. This time only one or two of us were stumped or caught out. 29 balls had gone and we had not quite reached the target we wanted, so came the clever idea of taking all the no balls. A few of our final rounders came from that tactic, bringing our final score to 13.5 rounders.

We started our second chance of fielding with our spirits high and ready for any unexpected action. Loretto sometimes got the better of us making Roo work hard at second deep trying not to panic. Mairi ended us off with an amazing one handed catch and the final score was 13.5 - 5.5. We were the winners!
