U9 at Merchiston

We decided to field first, having batted first in our last match (as good a reason as any!)

George and Freddy were our first bowlers and restricted their first pair to a mere 5runs, George taking 2 wickets.

Ross and Rex, not wanting to be outdone also restricted their pair to 5 runs, Ross taking 2 wickets to Rex’s one.

Merchiston’s third pair then managed to lose a wicket and score no runs, ending their innings on -5.

But just as the team were beginning to cruise, in came the fourth pair who were singularly unimpressed by our bowlers (who will remain nameless) and promptly scored 60 runs!

The last pair put on 17 which, with extras, gave Merchiston a total of 101

After a quick turn around, it was our turn to bat.

Jock S and Jack were first in and Jock thought he’d give Merchiston a bit of a boost by losing his wicket twice in the first over! What a start! Not to be outdone, jack also gave one away... But the these two made up for it and ended up scoring...3!

Ross and Rex were next and despite Rex losing 3 wickets, this pair scored several 4s and even a mighty 6 to finish on an encouraging 17.

George and Freddy were our middle pair and set about restoring some respectability to the score,with a rapid succession of 4s and a 6, losing only one wicket for a mighty score of 40! Things were looking up all of a sudden.

On came Jock WM and Angus who, after some careful batting and a single wicket-loss added another 14 to our total.

So the last pair came in 7 runs behind... Murray and Mungo knew they could not lose any wickets if they were to have a chance of catching up. But Murray was not going to let this slow him down and he called some tight singles and hit three 4s to finish on 18!

So, the extras were added up and all the runs tallied and yes, the under 9s had done it again, scoring 112!
