Eager to play this match, even if it did start to rain as St Mary’s arrived, the girls were not going to let a few drops of rain spoil their performance this afternoon. Batting first, as St Mary’s won the toss and chose to field, Kitty led the way with a great hit. With the ground a little wet and slippery, she played it safe waiting at first post. Daisy, Trea and Lydia D led the scores with 3 successive great hits and despite a super left handed hit, Katya was caught at first post. Every member of the team was hitting brilliantly today and further half rounders from Ness and Emily together with rounders from Franny and Claudia, Belhaven had scored a mighty 10 rounders. A high score to start off the game.

Their fielding was equally as tight. Adapting to give more support at first deep, left handed hits were fielded well and the girls were quick to stump out the St Mary’s batters. Most of the players were stumped at second with fast and accurate catches from Katya. Emily varied the style of her bowling today, which made it more difficult for the St Mary’s team to hit the ball. With St Mary’s failing to score many rounders from their batting they were all out after 25 balls.

Batting again and Grace led the way with half a rounder from her first hit. The girls played safer this innings and it took time to start the scores rolling again. Ness was unfortunately caught out from a great hit – this was apparently one of the St Mary’s goals for the game (cousin rivalry I hear!). Lydia continued to produce rounder after rounder from her batting and the team finished off the second innings with a further 5 rounders.

A tough total for the St Mary’s girls to match as they began their second innings. Franny and Lydia were on a roll though – the first two batters were non hitters and they were out at first post. Then once more, two in a row – out at first. The St Mary’s girls now knew that if they did not hit the ball they had to run pretty quickly or they would be out! A great catch from Ness caught out one of their best hitters and it was not long until the St Mary’s team were all out.

A great game girls – the fielding was much tighter today than at the tournament. You all supported each other in the field and showed great teamwork. Well done!

Men of the match:

Lydia Dalrymple for excellent batting
Franny and Lydia for such slick work between backstop and first post. Keep it up!
