U9 Rounders v St mary's

Well done girls!

This was a fantastic first game for the Under 9 girls. As the first innings began Belhaven were fielding. We made a controlled start with superb bowling from our captain, Miranda Joicey, and quick and accurate passing from Tallula as backstop to Zinnia on first post. St. Mary's had our girls a little flustered on a few occasions and we were chasing them with the ball on the posts, allowing them to score a few rounders. However, some excellent passing and catching led to several of their players being caught and stumped out. A great catch was made by Ram, and Zinnia and Rosie were superb on second and third posts. Tallula was fantastic as backstop and her fast reactions and brilliant passing to Zinnia at second kept the score low. Miranda Joicey held it all together and her bowling skills meant Belhaven gave absolutely no points away for no-balls.

Next, Belhaven's turn to bat and St. Marys conceded many half-rounders for no-balls. On occasion St. Mary's failed to focus on the scoring batter and our girls were able to score several half-rounders at second with some good batting. Unfortunately, in the excitement we lost two players at fourth post on their first bat! A lesson on keeping your eye on the ball and the batter ahead at all times. Zinnia scored an excellent first whole-rounder for the team and the half-rounders kept coming. At the end of the first innings the score was Belhaven 7 1/2, St. Mary's 4.

In the second innings St. Mary's batting improved and there were some big hits which kept 2nd deep on their toes. But Belhaven kept their fielding tight preventing rounders being scored. When batting, Belhaven were on top form and rounders were scored by Ram, Mia and Zinnia. Several half-rounders were also scored by Rosie, Tatiana and Nicole. The girls took some calculated risks which paid off and brought them to a final score of Belhaven 13, St. Mary's 8 1/2 at the end of a spendid game.
