1st Girls v Old Girls

It was lovely to see so many Old Girls back for the annual match on Wednesday and also wearing sensible footwear for once! Lucy, Ella, Leonora, Sophie, Beth, Claire, Dhileas, Connie, Victoria and Morgen – great to see you all again and thank you for all taking time to come back and see us. The U13 Team were keen to play hard as they knew that Lucy and Ella would still be just as good, and the others with an extra year could be a bit stronger. They needn’t have worried though!

 

The Belhaven U13 team played very tightly as they fielded first. Catches, quick passing, excellent throws between backstop and first post again, and great all round teamwork soon saw the Old Girls down to one player – Lucy, but only on a score of ½. With that they were challenged at first deep as Lucy hit the balls on every shot towards Claudia, Lydia and Trea was there to back up. Having scored 6 ½ rounders in the last 7 balls, the first team had a total of 7 rounders to beat.

 

Well, I think the Old Girls were out of practice a little. Still great passes between them, but they couldn’t field the great balls quickly enough from Trea, Lydia, Ness, Daisy, Iona, Emily - well in fact the whole team. Finishing their innings on 17 rounders the Old Girls were in for a bit of a challenge!

 

The fielding remained tight in the second innings and the Old Girls found it increasingly difficult to score many more rounders. With only another 4 rounders this innings the Old Girls admitted defeat.

 

The first team however, played just as hard. Varying the positions of their batting, Katya trying a sneaky right handed hit to confuse the fielders worked well! A incredible 19 more rounders this innings finished the game for the first team with a remarkable victory.

 

Well done all of you girls – it was a great training game for the team in preparation for Saturday’s match at Strathallan and even more so for next Wednesday against Cargilfield.

 

The Old Girls were a great sport as usual and it was a fun match for all the players.
