U9 v Ardvreck

On a gloriously sunny day, the U9 took on Ardvreck and won convincingly, to remain unbeaten so far.
As usual, pairs bat for a set number of overs (3 today) and everyone is given a chance to bowl at least one over during the match. A wicket is -5 runs.

Ardvreck won the toss and elected to field first.

Ross and Rex were our opening pair and despite losing 2 wickets they struck a 4 each to finish their stint on 6. Slowish start then.
Jock and Angus were next; they hit a few 4s and did not lose any wickets to run up a score of 19 at the end of their overs. That’s more like it.
Freddy and George can normally rattle a few and sure enough, they were soon in full flow, hitting four 4s between them to finish with a superb 31 runs. Fiery stuff now.
Mungo and Murray came next and were keen to add to an already decent total and, despite losing a wicket to a high all, they contributed a smashing 21. Looking better all the time.
Jack and Donald played a very cautious innings and ,having lost only one wicket, added a further 3 runs. Bit of a slow down.
Finally the last pair of Duncan and Seb stepped up and were soon taking risky runs and getting away with it, getting a couple of 4s, losing a wicket and still adding a good 16 runs.                                                            Final score: 96

Ardvreck were at the crease now and thir first pair ,facing George, Freddy and Mungo bowling fast and straight , soon lost 4 wickets, scoring 1 run in the end.
Ross, Duncan and Angus attacked the next pair, taking two wickets and reducing them to a minus score: -1
Rex, Murray and Jock took one wicket and restricted their pair to 8.
Donald, Jack and Seb were less successful as an attack, their quarry getting away with 27 in the end.
The final six overs were shared around and, after a couple more wickets had fallen, Ardvreck’s total was 49.                                         Victory number 3 !

Several things about this win were very pleasing:
• there were some very good catches
• fielding was better focused
• nobody ran their partner out!
• batting was again our strongest point

The bowling still needs working on as there were too many slow balls for comfort; a better batting side would have made mincemeat of some of our bowlers!
Nevertheless, progress is being made and if we can keep this up, we should continue to be successful. Well done everyone involved.

Finally, thanks to our very supportive band of parents.
