EXPLORING - THE JOHN MUIR AWARD

A Map at John Muir showing the location of the footpaths
Having completed their final 'litter clean up' sessions for their Conservation task, Form 3 went down to John Muir once again but this time to complete a small fieldwork exercise.
In class they have looked at different habitats and learnt to use keys to identify species, they now had to put their skills to the test.

The task for them to complete was: Does the amount of vegetation change as you move further away from a footpath?

The footpath 3g used to complete the fieldwork
Both Forms looked at different footpaths within John Muir Country Park. Using quadrats, they had to identify the type of vegetation in each quadrat and then estimate the amount it covered. They also measured the height of any plants in each section and noted any other details.
Here are some pictures of Form 3 completing the task.
