It had to happen sometime – the end to our recent victories. A tough game to play anyway and even more so as it was during exam week.
Maybe you were a little too confident in the first innings after some super matches or maybe you were not focused as much as you should have been. Trea and Daisy both found it difficult to hit the ball this match and their shots failed to deliver much to the scoreboard. Fortunately Katya was determined in the first innings and so was Lydia both scoring rounders from their shots. A risky rounder from Emily and half rounders from Franny took our score for the first innings to 9 rounders.
The fielding innings showed some good accurate bowling from Emily, varying the speed and delivery of the balls. There were some great catches and the teamwork and fielding between players was good. A few vital misfields gave away the all important rounders and half rounders from Cargilfield’s two left handed batters. By half time Belhaven were just leading by 1 ½ rounders.
Batting again, and the girls could not get an eye for the ball. Failing to hit many of the balls, the girls struggled to improve their score. Non hitters needed to be quick off the mark or they would have been out at first post. With only 3 ½ more rounders scored, the fielding needed to be tight.
Again, there was some great fielding and some not so great fielding this innings. Balls on the ground needed to be fielded and returned accurately and smoothly if they were to get the Cargilfield batters out. A great fielded pass from one of the stronger hitters saw Katya stump out at second post. The rounders were being limited but unfortunately a few more misfielded balls allowed Cargilfield to take the lead by 1 rounder.
Unlucky girls – a tough match and probably not the best one you have played this term. Under a lot of pressure from exams and Sports Day looming let’s improve the ground fielding for our three remaining matches.
