U9 Rounders v Cargilfield

Wednesday 3rd June

U9 Team

Well done girls!

Belhaven 17 - Cargilfield 10

Belhaven won the toss and captain Zinnia chose to field first. Cargilfield got off to a flying start with excellent batting and running. Long hits resulted in five whole rounders being scored and the half rounders where also adding up. However, our girls rose to the challenge. Superb fielding by all resulted in all but two of their players being put out. Ram made two superb catches and Zinnia stumped five of their players out at second post! Once again Tallula was fantastic as backstop and Ram gave away only a half for no-balls with exceptional bowling. Cargilfield's two strongest girls played on and as Belhaven tried their hardest to stop them scoring at second, we missed the opportunity to stump the box and put them out. But at the next chance Tallula did just that and Cargilfield ended their first innings with a very strong 7 1/2 rounders.

Belhaven's turn to bat came and despite some energetic swinging we were not making much contact with the ball. Some nice hits and a little bit of risk taking by Rosie and Zinnia paid off and the girls totted up the half rounders. The half rounders from no-balls were also adding up. A bit of bad luck and good fielding meant two of our players were caught out, and two stumped out at second. However, the girls kept trying to match Cargilfield's score and at the end of the innings managed a very close 6 1/2 rounders.

In the second half our girls were on absolute top form and were determined to win. The deeps were ready for the long balls and were super at backing up second post, especially Hannah as second deep. Quick passing to second by backstop and bowler meant Cargilfield were unable to score. The speed at which the ball was passed to second really made a difference and not only resulted in keeping the score down, but also Zinnia putting out four of their players! A few good hits and runs for Cargilfield, but at the end of their innings they had managed only a further 2 1/2 and Belhaven were in with a chance!

In the second innings our girls batting was much improved. Excellent hitting created several super runs and we were back on track. Ram, Tallula and Zinnia were fabulous at batting and scored many of the rounders. Hannah also scored a great rounder. The girls used their judgement well and knew when to take a risk. We stayed strong until the end, with only a few batters being put out at second and third post an the very end. At the end of a tremendous innings Belhaven had scored a super 10 1/2 rounders, bringing the final score to Belhaven 17, Cargilfield 10.

Well done everyone!
