U9 v Fettes
Today’s match was played in front of the school on a brand new wicket, on a very pleasant afternoon. Once again we were put in to bat first which seems to suit us.
Ross and Rex are getting used to being first up and were soon into their stride, hitting 4 fours along the way, finishing their 3 overs on 28 runs. Jock S and Duncan came in next and started rather poorly, Duncan losing 2 wickets in quick succession before Jock decided to rattle 3 fours to make their contribution 11 runs. Freddy and George can be relied upon to move the score on somewhat and, true to form, George hit 4 fours and a three, whilst Freddy managed a six and a four, their total a mighty 40 runs. Mungo and Murray decided to go for singles and, with just one four and a silly run out, managed a total of 12 runs. Angus and Alex were the last pair of the day and slowly but safely, not losing any wickets, contributed a further 18 runs. Belhaven’s final score: 110 runs.
A quick turnaround and Duncan got the first Fettes wicket with the very first ball ! Not a bad start, then. Jock and George were also bowling to the first Fettes pair and between them, this trio kept the score on 17 runs. Freddy, Mungo and Murray were the next attack and took the most wickets: 2 for Freddy and one each for Mungo and Murray, thus preventing the Fettes pair from scoring anything at all. Angus, Ross and Rex all bowled carefully, Angus taking one wicket, Rex bowling a maiden, and restricted their pair to 17 runs. Alex, taking one wicket and helped along by George and Freddy then prevented the fifth pair from moving the score on. The final combination of Mungo, Rex and Murray allowed Fettes a bit of a final flourish but it was all too late by then.
Fettes’ final score:49 runs.
So there it was, victory number four! Well done all!
