Under 11 rounders v cargilfield

Belhaven 10     Cargilfield  7

U11team

It was not one of our better starts. As a result of poor fielding we allowed Cargilfield to score two half rounders with the first two balls of the innings. The girls knew that they needed to settle quickly and tighten up their fielding. The turnaround was led by Amelia Cookson who fielded the ball quickly to first post for a stumping. This sent a buzz around the team and our fielding certainly improved. Grizel Hocknell and Rosabel Kilgour acheived their greatest number of stumpings to date as backstop and first post. Annabel Wailes-Fairbairn wowed the crowd again with one of her trade mark catches while Sophie Benson took a very impressive 'Patrick' catch proving that it is worth all the broken nails in practice! Mairi Donaldson was solid at second post helping to stop many half rounders being scored as well as cutting off numerous hard hits by Cargilfield between second and third. Abigail Pooley and Sophie Walker-Munro were kept busy in the deep and threw to the correct post each time to try and stop Cargilfield from scoring. Also in the deep was Jeanie Gibbs who made sure that no blade of grass in the field was left untouched by her trainers and took the Cargilfield batters by surprise with her length and accuracy of throw.

After a very shaking start the girls pulled it around. Their fielding is now becoming slicker every match and their batting is showing greater promise the more they relax in the batting square.
