1st Rounders v Longridge Towers
Belhaven 27 – Longridge 2 ½
Exhausted from their week of Outward Bound Activities and with Lydia’s nerves as her big brother was watching, the girls won the toss and wisely chose to field first. Emily bowled very well and her varied bowling was tricky for the Longridge girls to hit. The girls who hit the ball played safe and the non hitters were soon the victims of our backstop/first base duo. The triangle also worked well as Emily quickly fielded the short balls back to Lydia at first post. Katya didn’t miss any balls today, whilst Ness and Trea did not need to field too deep today. Kitty also made some good catches at third post. Longridge failed to score as our fielding was tight. They ended their first innings with only ½ rounder.
Kitty led the scores with a rounder, followed by Trea and Lydia. Ness was on form today varying her batting and always hitting into spaces. Franny soon got her eye for the ball, also Emily and Claudia were soon hitting balls to the deep fielders. An impressive 12 rounders scored in the first innings by the Belhaven team.
Keeping the fielding just as slick in the second innings, Emily made some good catches, Grace was in a great place off third post for shorter balls and the ‘duo’ remained on form. Depsite some good hiiting, Longridge only managed to score a further 2 rounders, one of which was a risky one for the batters as it put the pressure on our fielders to perform. Longridge finished the game with a score of 2 ½ rounders.
Having already won the game, the Belhaven girls took to the batting square once more. This time Katya was connecting with the ball and aiming her shots straight into the cricket nets. She also tried some very successful right handed hits too. A further 15 rounders this innings took our score to 27.
Well done girls - a good match to get you back into the game after a break. Let’s concentrate on our match against Ardvreck next week, play like you did today and you will be fine.
