1st rounders v Ardvreck
Belhaven 14 ½ - Ardvreck 10 ½
Well you did it again – back focused on the game and another victory against Ardvreck. Great, tight fielding during the first innings and the girls made sure that Ardvreck were not going to score. A few early no-balls and a little bit of hesitant fielding gave away a few rounders and despite some great hitting from Ardvreck, they only managed to score half rounders. Ness and Kitty made some great catches and our 'demon duo' stumped out the non hitters at first post. Ardvreck ended the first innings on 7 ½ rounders.
Playing it safe, the girls hit the ball carefully and skilfully with Daisy scoring the first rounder of the innings. A great hit from Ness was caught and one too from Katya. Great strikes on the ball from Trea, Daisy, Kitty, Franny and Grace all increased our scores and we finished the first innings with a narrow lead of 1 rounder – 8 ½ to Belhaven.
It was now going to be a tight game and the girls knew their fielding needed to remain secure with no mis-fielded or fumbled balls allowed. The Belhaven fielders were certainly on a roll. Some backwards hits caught by Franny and catches too from Ness and Daisy, along with our ‘duo’ and Ardvreck failed to score from their balls. Down to one last player at the end of the innings, Ardvreck finished having scored a further 2 ½ rounders.
For our second batting innings, Ardvreck adapted their fielding. With only a bowler, backstop and second post the rest of the team played deep. Daisy and Trea looked for spaces in the field to place the ball, Lydia, Katya and Grace were caught from some fantastic hits and a risky running Ness sacrificed her go by trying for a half rounder. With Ardvreck’s tight fielding and our players being caught, it was soon down to Kitty and Daisy to ‘save’ the match! The pair kept going – great hitting, half and whole rounders being scored until finally Daisy was left as last batter before the whole side were out. Another 6 rounders this innings and Belhaven had won the match.
A great game girls – slick fielding, great batting and all round teamwork you beat a tough and determined opposition. One last match now – you can do it!
Four exhausted players - Daisy, Ness, Lydia and Trea then went on to play tennis against Ardvreck along with Bea, Tosca, Rose and Iona B. Out of the 8 matches, the Belhaven teams won 5 with Daisy, Ness, Lydia and Trea winning their four matches.
