1st netball v kilgraston

Belhaven 12 - Kilgraston 10

What a terrific start to the term girls – with just a few sessions before the match and your shooting, marking and footwork was pretty accurate.

Hattie won the toss and choosing to shoot first, the accurate passing and spacing saw Rose with the ball and scoring the first goal of the match. Keeping one step ahead, watching their passes and keeping the ball in their possession, the girls were soon aiming for goal once more. Goals from Rose and Olivia soon added to the scores. Saskia and Tosca were kept busy in defence as the Kilgraston attack aimed for goal. The height from our defence and super positioning around the circle stopped the opposition from scoring too often. By the end of the first quarter Belhaven were leading by two goals. Belhaven 4 – Kilgraston 2

Ready to pass

The second quarter began and with the same enthusiasm and the girls talked to each other on the court, made accurate passes and interceptions. Mairi’s height in the centre of court helped with the interception of the passes and Iona was always in a space to receive the ball and pass it into our goal area. Tosca showed great determination with her interceptions batting the ball clear of her opponents and passing to Saskia as she moved around the goal third, clearing the ball to Hattie. By half time Belhaven were still in the lead by 4 goals. Belhaven 8 – Kilgraston 4

A quick talk at half time and a well deserved drink of water, and the Belhaven girls were ready to defend the centre pass. Intercepting the passes and finding spaces, Bea was always in a space to collect the balls and pass them forward to Iona and HattieRose and Olivia kept up their great teamwork in the circle, aiming for the goal, sometimes a little too fast but managing to score. Mairi switched to give Tosca a rest and the two tall defenders tried hard to stop the Kilgraston shooters from scoring. Kilgraston were closing in on our scores but we managed to stay in the lead. Belhaven 10 – Kilgraston 8

Is it a goal?

Determined to keep in the lead, the girls focused on their passing, slowed down the game to ensure they did not lose possession in their attacking circle. Kilgraston tried hard to keep possession but the interceptions from the Belhaven girls made it more difficult. Still keeping up the pace and showing their skill right to the final whistle, the girls were victorious in their first match. Belhaven 12 – Kilgraston 10.

Defending the goal

A terrific start to the season girls – you have the potential to do really well this term. Your movement on court, the interceptions and passes worked really well. Olivia and Rose, the shooting was amazing, cool and calm with each shot. A few things to work on and you can look forward some more exciting matches.

Man of the matchIona Brooks for always being in a space, determination and great passes.
