There was a mixture of excitement and nerves as the girls set off on the coach for their first away match.

Cargilfield won the toss and took first centre pass. Their girls were quick and able and from the start Belhaven was under pressure. Flora played well in defence and tried her best to stop Cargilfield from scoring. However Cargilfield were a strong side and often intercepted the ball, making it impossible for our girls to get the ball up our end. Cargilfield had repeated chances at goal and soon scored. They scored twice in the first quarter.

The Belhaven girls remained determined and contined to play hard, but Cargilfield had an experienced side who were very fiesty when grabbing the ball. Our girls needed to use the space more effectively on the court and not bunch up. They found this difficult when being closely marked and unfortunely we conceded three more goals. However, at last we managed to get the ball into the goal circle and a fantastic goal was scored by Pandora who has displayed superb shooting skills this term. At half time the score was 5 - 1.

In the second half our girls did not flag and infact started to fight back. They began to use the space and make more accurate passes. Sophie Gladstone was great as goal keeper and closely marked her partner in the circle. Amy and Jemima were quick to interpet play and get into a space and played very well. The girls were able to put a stop to any more scoring but unfortunaely found it hard to get the ball into the shooting circle so the score remained the same.

Our girls showed true spirit and determination and I am very proud of them. They have learnt a lot from this challenging match and all of the girls played well. Well done all of you!

Team: Ruby, Amy, Jemima, Skye, Flora, Sophie, Pandora and Susannah.
