1st Netball v Mowden hall
Belhaven 17 - Mowden 9

Putting their last match behind them, the girls have worked hard on spacing and dodging on court and knowing to whom they are passing. The shooters too, now found it more natural to ‘step back’ when shooting and the defence were trying hard to block the circle. With all this work in just two sessions, the girls were focused as they warmed up for the match.
Reaching high for a goal
In rather cold and miserable conditions, Hattie took the first centre pass. Within minutes, Belhaven took the lead with a great goal from Olivia. Mowden fought back hard and they too, scored a goal. Hattie and Iona worked well on court and their centre passes became more accurate allowing them to keep possession of the ball and feed it to Rose and Olivia to score. By quarter time Belhaven were just in the lead by 1 goal. Belhaven 4 – Mowden 3
Another shot at goal
During the next quarter, the girls had settled into the game, concentrating on their passes and keeping possession of the ball. Saskia worked hard in defence, catching the rebound from the Mowden shots at goal and passing to Tosca, keeping the ball away from the circle. Bea, was always in a space and jumped into action to intercept the higher passes. Starting to creep ahead this quarter, the girls were talking to each other on court and becoming more aware of their positioning. By half time Belhaven were leading by 4 goals. Belhaven 9 – Mowden 5
Goal Keeper defends the goal
By the third quarter, the girls could afford to slow the pace a little and concentrate on ensuring they made no footwork errors, or force the ball too quickly into the circle. The Belhaven attack were strong, with Hattie and Iona working around the circle until the shooters were ready. Rose and Olivia moved within the circle helping each other and had many opportunities to shoot. Tosca and Saskia were still busy in defence trying out their blocking to keep the Mowden attack out of the circle and passing the ball back towards Bea on the wing. By the end of the third quarter the score was Belhaven 15 – Mowden 7
The attack leap into action
With a confident lead, the girls did not relax at all in the last quarter. They played hard until the final whistle, testing out their new skills whenever they had the chance. Jumping and intercepting the balls between the Mowden team, the Belhaven girls played some great netball.
The defenders worked hard right up the last minute
Well done girls –a huge improvement upon you last game. You are all willing to listen, try out new things and have proved they work successfully. Thank you also to the parents for travelling a long way to support us.
Man of the match – Iona Brooks – for great all round play
