Under 9 Netball v CArgilfieLD

Belhaven 1 - Cargilfield 3

(photos to follow)

Unfortunately the Under 9 team had lost three players due to illness, and it was a shame that the girls could not play together and demonstrate how they had improved so much as a team since our last match against Cargilfield. From the start the pressure was on and Cargilfield had most of the possession. Our girls found it difficult to get the ball out of their goal third and Sophie and Skye had to work particularly hard in the goal circle. However, the girls kept up their defence and managed to keep Cargilfield’s score low despite repeated opportunities, and conceded only one goal.

In the second quarter some changes were made to positions to strengthen our defence further and this made a difference. The Belhaven girls were able to gain more possession and Cargilfiled were unable to score any more goals. However, our girls were holding back and needed to assert themselves to gain full control of the game.

After a half time talk the girls suddenly picked up their game and began to put the spirit in! They began moving around the court with far more confidence and worked hard to get the ball. This soon resulted in Belhaven scoring with a great goal by Jemima who has proved to be another good shooter for the Under 9s.

As we entered the fourth quarter we were in with a chance. However Cargilfield fought back and scored another two goals! Our girls kept on playing well despite the cold and dark and tried hard until the very end. We had a few opportunities at goal but were unable to score. The girls all played really well, trying to get into a space and making accurate passes. Jemima played extremely well as GA and moved with speed and skill around the court. This was an excellent game and the girls may not have won but they should be very proud of their performance and determination.

Team: Ruby, Holly, Jemima, Skye, Susannah G, Sophie and Susannah W.
