2nd XI Hockey v Craigclowan

27th Jan 2010

Won 2-0
Goals; Geordie Younger, Will Plowden.

This was a similar game to our first match against Ardvreck where the team took a good 10 minutes to settle into any sort of deliberate pattern. Our opponents looked powerful in defence but we seemed to be ahead on stick skills across our half line. Once we gained the confidence to carry the ball forward into space and make passes to team mates in space we looked much more efficient. Our wide players still need encouraged to stay wide and it was obvious yesterday that when they did this we were able to get in behind the Craigclowan defence and cause significant problems.

Up front, Rupert and Kit “scavenged” well and pressurised our opponents into making hurried clearances. Once these two front men held their high positions on the pitch we could also play them in when breaking from the midfield.

Geordie dictated the quality of most of our attacks whilst Edward and Angus grafted to recover behind the ball when we lost position high up the field. This led to only one shot being hit on target and a very patient Harry did everything asked of him by clearing the ball effectively.

Geordie’s goal came from a concerted attack which saw the ball fall to him and allowed him to flick it high into the Craigclowan net.

Will Plowden and Charlie Riley got more time and space out wide but Will’s goal resulted from him doing the right thing and “snapping” at the keeper’s heels when a shot was saved.

Defensively we looked rock solid. Ably led by our captain Jamie, the back three looked almost impassable. William Prenter made some excellent interceptions and Tom Wright carried the ball out of defence very well indeed. Antonio joined the match in the second half and did all that was required of him too.

All round this was a pleasing performance and the super seconds march on!
