2nd XI v Riley House, Strathallan

03.02.10
Drew 0 – 0

Today we faced our most able opponents this season so far. Riley were well organized and competitive.

We played some good hockey with deliberate patterns and dominated possession and territory throughout the first half. Unfortunately we lacked the required urgency in and around our opponents' D to bring more saves from their keeper who had an excellent game. Our best effort was a well struck shot by GIK from a well executed penalty corner. The keeper made a good save with his legs but might have done less well if one of our braver forwards had run in to impede his view.

That said, we did play some neat passing hockey that helped us press into the D on several more occasions but few shots were fired in to test the keeper in open play.

Our defence functioned well and snuffed out any reasonable threat from our opponents who flooded our half with runners in the second half.
Our halves were up to the challenge of retreating behind the ball to aid our defensive effort and this plus one excellent clearance from Harry in goal, kept our sheet clean.

The team’s stick work is improving and a strong pride in an unbeaten record is developing but we must focus on a better interchange of passes near our opponents' area
