1st Hockey v st mary's

Belhaven  7      St Mary's  0

 v St Marys

Our first and only 11 a side game of the season took us to Melrose where we were treated to a freshly rolled pitch! The girls took control right from the start as they held their positions well and passed the ball intelligently. After numerous attacks at the St Mary's goal we were awarded a short corner. With a slightly smaller circle than we are used to, the ball from Iona Brooks had to be quick and accurate and it was. Rose Greville Williams received it cleanly, pushed it into the path of Saskia Weir who was not going to miss her first opportunity to score for Belhaven. This goal seemed to step the team up a gear. Rosabel Kilgour and Jeanie Gibbs battled hard in defence and quickly won back balls that advanced towards the St Mary's half. Bea Begg, playing for the first time in the team, was not going to be intimidated by St Mary's and battled hard for the ball producing great passes out to Hattie Harley on the wing. Tosca Tindall and Hattie Harley once again were very effective on the wing and their positioning in the circle was perfect. As a result it was not long before they hit the ball passed the St Mary's goalie. Amelia Cookson was also rewarded for her hard work in the circle and as a result of her grit and determination she too got the ball passed the St Mary's goalie. The end of the first half certainly felt like a job well done, but we knew that St Mary's were probably going to come back fighting.

 v St Marys

The second half saw St Mary's taking more control of the ball and Sophie Walker Munro and Saskia Weir found themselves with a lot to do in the first ten minutes and Olivia Dobson made a crucial save to give her a clean sheet for the match. Rose Greville Williams and Iona Brooks were very strong on the ball in the second half whether it was defending our goal or attacking St Mary's goal. As a result of their hard work the team soon turned the game back in their favour and we were back in control again. Tosca Tindall did not waste the fantastic balls into the circle and connected well with the ball to score two more goals and Rose was rewarded for her hard work by scoring the last goal and bringing our total to seven.

A very impressive team performance making a few mothers slightly worried about a certain match towards the end of term!
