u11 girls' vs loretto

This was the second match of the season against Loretto.

With the sun shining and Belhaven receiving the first pass back, it looked set to be a good match...

However, the girls were rather docile and unfocused in the first half. Jemima scored a fast goal within minutes of the whistle blowing but some silly mistakes were made pushing the ball offside and the girls weren't quick enough to get their sticks down when marking. This lead to Loretto scoring  an easy goal. As the score evened, the girls started to warm up and with some accurate passing out to Izzy and Cassia at the wings, Emilia scored Belhaven's second goal.

After a team chat at half time, the girls' energy and determination increased! Stepping up the pace in mid field was Matilda who managed to successfully tackle and intercept the ball from Loretto. The girls worked much better as a team and passing the ball wide, were able to dribble the ball into Loretto's D. Jemima hit the ball towards the goal and just as we thought the goalie had kicked it clear, it hit off her boot and entered the goal!

Feeling much more enthusiastic, the girls lost concentration briefly and Loretto scored their second goal but we were still confident with our extra goal. Mercedes, Silvie and Rosie battled in defence, hitting some super strong balls away from our D and Julia continues to impress as the U11 goalie. With only minutes to go and Mr Wilson excitedly encouraging the attackers from the back line, Jemima repeatedly hit the ball towards Loretto's goal. Stopped several times(!) by the goalie, she continued to hit the re-bounce and the ball went in!

Good game girls, particularly in the second half. You will need to play like this for the duration of each match in Saturday's tournament.
