A  BAND  OF  BROTHERS

I’m sure many of the Belhaven parents realise what a fantastic job Alastair McCredie, the pipes teacher, does at the school. However, the piping at Belhaven has not always been so widespread – as Mr McCredie remembered when he heard this week from an old boy.

Alexander Elphinstone, who left Belhaven after being Head of House in 1993, rang up his old piping teacher from his home in Brazil, because his trusty set of pipes had stopped working.

Elphy brought his pipes to Mr McCredie while home visiting family, so that they could have a much-needed MOT.

Mr McCredie said, “When I arrived at the school, I only had nine students – one of whom was Alexander. This goes to show; once a piper at Belhaven, always a piper at Belhaven!” He was too modest to say that his piping class now has an amazing 45 students.

There were cheers and thumbs up all round as Mr McCredie managed to get the pipes working properly again, before Elphy treated the piping class to a rendition of Teribus on the school steps.
