1st Rounders triangular match

Belhaven 5 - St Mary's 7 .5        Belhaven 7 - Cargilfield 8 .5

This was not one of our better afternoons today, it has to be said, and I think the girls would agree.  Still feeling sleepy as we arrived at St Mary's, the first match of the afternoon we were playing St Mary's and batting first.  The girls found it hard to hit the ball in this innings until Jeanie led the way with a fantastic hit to first deep.  This was followed with half rounders from Saskia, Rose and Mairi.  A final great hit from Olivia Dobson took our score to 5 rounders - not a particularly high score for the St Mary's girls to chase.

As we began fielding to St Mary's, the non hitters were out at first post and two catches from Tosca and Hattie, soon saw half the team out.  This appeared to be good, until the St Mary's team got an eye for the ball and started hitting well.  Our fielding was not the best, letting the ball roll past, and not calling for the ball, all let the St Mary's team score the extra one and a half rounders to take them to the lead.

A short team talk and in the next match against Cargilfield, the girls were far more awake and their fielding could not have been tighter.  Rising to the challenge of playing a tough side, Olivia D caught out one of the best hitters on their first bat.  Again some quick passes to first post for the non hitters and further catches from Saskia, Tosca, Hattie and Olivia D, saw the Cargilfield team down to one batter.  Cargilfield finished their innings having scored 8 1/2 rounders.

With a score to aim for, the girls played safe at the start.  Bea led the scores followed by Hattie, Iona and Olivia D.  The girls needed to place the ball well in the field and run fast around the track.  Some further great hitting from Bea and Olivia D saw the scores become closer but by the end of the innings we were one and a half rounders short.

A much improved second innings girls.  Had we played a second innings, we may have been more focused and played more securely.  You need to play your hardest right from the start in the short innings.

Man of the match - Olivia Dobson
