1st Rounders v Cargilfield
Belhaven 10 – Cargilfield 19 ½
Well, we knew beforehand that this would be a hard match for the girls and they showed real determination right from the start. Their fielding was spot on – 4 girls out at first post as a result of quick thinking and accurate passing between Olivia D and Iona, along with great catches from Saskia and Tosca, saw the Cargilfield batters with only 1 left in by the end of the innings.
With a score of 9 ½ rounders set, the girls found it difficult to hit the ball. A half rounder from Mairi led the way, followed by great hitting from Saskia, Bea, Rose, Tosca and Hattie increased the scores as we went along. With only four of the Belhaven team out by the end of the innings we had a total of 6 ½ rounders.
Again, tight fielding in the second innings along with great catches from Olivia D and Hattie, the girls had to try and stop the important half rounders. Madeline and Jeanie fielded well in deep, despite having to retrieve the ball several times from the Cargilfield cricketers who were in the nets just behind them! With a further 9 ½ rounders, it would be a tough second innings for our girls batting.
We did not have the best of starts for the second batting innings. The balls were difficult to hit, and our hitting was not quite as strong as it has been. A low scoring innings, with scores from Bea, Rose, Tosca and Ollie, this time meant that Cargilfield had won.
Girls, your fielding this match was the best you have played. I was really proud of your efforts.
Some of you still need to concentrate on your catches – running towards the ball and catching it, rather than just waiting for it.
