2nd Rounders v Cargilfield
Cargilfield 20 ½ - Belhaven 15 ½
This was an exciting and tense game and the girls played very well today. Unfortunately Cargilfield were on top form and had some very strong batters. In the first innings our fielding was great and the girls managed to put many of their players out. Rosabel was super on first post putting four of their batters out. Amelia was bowling superbly, giving away no rounders for no-balls and Grizel was always at the ready as backstop. However, despite the girls best efforts Cargilfield’s two best hitters and top scorers kept the girls on their toes. Again and again these girls showed off their batting skills and avoided being stumped out. They just managed to stay in without the box being stumped and confidently added rounder after rounder as the tension grew towards the end. At last the innings game to an end with 8 rounders to Cargilfield.
The Belhaven girls came into bat and were a little unnerved by this confident start. With some good hits Poppy, Rosabel and Abigail scored some great rounders. However we lost three of our girls on their first bat at first post! Amelia, Alny and Abigail gained us a few more half rounders at second base but soon after we lost Grizel and Rosabel. The girls fought on but in the end there was just Poppy and Alny left in. The girls were a little rattled but we finished the innings not far behind with 6 ½ rounders.
It was Cargilfield's turn to bat and they scored 4 ½ rounders with their first six batters! They had us on the run and again made some huge hits into the deep. Our girls did their best to get the ball to fourth but their girls were fast. Sophie was always ready at fourth and made some nice catches. Quick fielding resulted in three of their players being stumped out at first including one of their strongest players from the first innings, and Poppy made an excellent catch as bowler. However, the rounders and half rounders kept coming and Cargilfield added another 12 ½ rounders to their total.
It was going to be tough to catch up and terrible bad luck and quick reactions from Cargilfield meant Amelia and Sophie Benson were caught out straight away. However, the girls really began to show off their batting skills aswell, scoring many half rounders. The girls played really well and really picked up their game and scored a fantastic 9 rounders. Unfortunately this was not enough to beat Cargilfield’s high score. Poppy and Grizel took some calculated risks to score as the good balls ran out but were stumped out at second. Rosabel and Sophie W-M continued on but the balls finally came to an end. The final score was 20 ½ to Cargilfield, 15 ½ to Belhaven.
Man of the match: Rosabel (for the top score and lightening reactions at first post)
Well done all of you!
