Farr shows the way

A very impressive knock from Jamie Farr led the under elevens to a stunning victory over Ardvreck at Belhaven on Saturday.

Ardvreck batted first in a thirty over match and after a few early wickets their middle order showed some class as they reached for . The pick of the bowlers were George Watson and Jamie Farr early on, while Sam Pooley and in particular Christian Thomson impressed, putting the Ardvreck batsmen under pressure.

The visitors were a classy outfit, however, unbeaten this season, and they recovered from their early setbacks to reach 130 - a challenging target.
The Ardvreck opening bowler removed Freddy Younger in the first over and, watched by the gaping mouths of the first eleven, who were trying to enjoy their tea, proceeded to bowl four very rapid overs from the top end. We needed to dig in, and Jamie Farr, now joined by George Watson, did so. Jamie was showing the full range of his shots, impressively driving, cutting and pulling the ball to the boundary. Fifteen overs in, the equation was simple. If George and Jamie stayed at the crease the game was ours.

When their partnership reached 99, George fell, but Jamie continued, giving no real chances (except for one scooped pull shot which fell between fielders). The scoreboard ticked on and on, and the target grew closer and closer and closer.

By the time the winning runs came, Jamie had scored 89 of the most impressive runs I have seen on the under eleven pitch at Belhaven, and won the game.
