After a disrupted start to the season due to a very cold winter and a rather inconvenient ash cloud, the pupils produced some really rather beautiful gardens again this year.
Garden of the year went to the Form Four Girls: Miranda Strang Steel, Alice Warre, Miranda Joicey, Tallula Douglas Miller, Zinnia White and Mia Harvey.
Gardener of the year was a very close-run thing with Hannah Bruneau just edging out last year's winner Miranda Strang Steel. I'm sure Miranda will be back in next year to regain the title!
These awards follow on from the autumn term gardening awars, where Duncan Mackenzie grew the tallest sunflower at 8’7” (2.62 m) and Julia Tyndall won the largest pumpkin award, which had a girth of 3’ 1” (94 cm).
For the first year we have grown produce for the school kitchens and also turned the biodegradable waste produced there into great compost for our gardens.
We are producing broccoli, cauliflowers, potatoes, red and green cabbages, sprouts and four different kinds of potatoes.
Here are some pictures from the end of term's award ceremony with Head of the Governors, Mrs. Jenny Harper.
