Form 1 Visit Belhaven Brewery

Today Form 1 visited Belhaven Brewery with Mr. Curry and Mr. Allott. We all found the trip very interesting as we were told about osmosis, fermentation, starch conversion, enzymatic action, filtration and flash pasteurisation. Mr. Peek would have been in his element with all this science.

The brewer, Adam, takes us through the brewing process from mash silo and water borehole to packaging, passing mashing in, sparging, running off, wort, hopping, pitching yeast, fermentation, conditioning and filtration on the way!

We are told about hydrometer readings.

A peek in through the spyhole into the bubbling yeast. In fact Archie has a look about him of a man just caught by a spy.

Thanks very much to Emma and Adam for a fascinating tour, we learned lots and really enjoyed our morning.
