On Saturday night we were lucky enough to have been chosen to cook for the MacAskills and it was greatly enjoyed and appreciated! We started by going to Asda to buy the ingredients for our meal before coming back to cook. Some of us got a bit muddled with the quantities needed and we think Mrs MacAskill has enough tomatoes to last for the month, courtesy of Lewys!
We decided to split up into pairs: Bibi and Lewys treated us to a choice of starters, which consisted of a platter of mozzarella and tomato salad alongside smoked salmon with dill on seeded bread - yummy!
Jemima and Theo prepared fillet steak (yes really!) with red wine sauce, roasted new potatoes with rosemary, broccoli and green beans.
Pudding was carefully crafted by Mercedes and Ewan (who did a lot of tasting along the way!) and consisted of chocolate mousse with a selection of berries - a very fine menu we thought!
We decided to make the table look immaculate, so, while Jemima was busy picking flowers for the table arrangement, the rest of us were learning from Sophia how to fold the napkins into an interesting fan shape.
Mr MacAskill was getting impatient as he was hungry, but at long last supper was ready. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed every mouthful. Mr MacAskill entertained us throughout the meal with his supposed opera voice, air–violin playing and conducting of his imagined orchestra! We listened to both pop and classical music before some of us got up to dance around the kitchen.
Once we had tidied up we sat down to watch the X-factor and were joined by Emilia and Hughie to await the arrival of Mr Bush, the Headmaster of Oundle, who was very friendly and chatted to all of us. Sadly at 10 o’clock the time ran out and Sophia accompanied us back to our houses. We had great fun and hope to do it again soon!
