Form 4 history trip to stirling

The Wallace Monument, Stirling Bridge and the Bannockburn Heritage Centre.

On Friday 18th November, all of Form 4 set off in the buses on our way to Stirling (Max). The journey was long, it took about an hour and a half, but when we got there, it was worth it! (Leo)

When we arrived, we walked up to the Wallace Monument, where we split into two groups and started to explore the floors. The steps were narrow, steep and very scary! (Ella) The winding stairs went on for ages! Finally, we reached the second floor where we picked up lots of information (Ellie). We saw Wallace's sword, it was 4 foot 4 so he must have been about 6 foot!! (David). We climbed up to the top, the stairs were really twirly and it made me feel sick! (Rose) When we got to the top, the view was amazing; you could see the whole of Bannock Burn and nearly the whole of Stirling. You could also see the castle, it was beautiful (Annabel). Then we all went back down, there were 246 steps in this monument! (James).

After the monument, we went to have a look at Stirling Bridge and we played poo sticks! We also had a packed lunch before we went to the heritage centre (Arabella).

Firstly, we went to see a video about the battle of Bannockburn then the Earl of Moray came in and gave Miss. Graham a fright! (Zoe). He showed us all of his weapons and we re-enacted the battle of Bannockburn.

Hector was King Edward I, James and Ella were both Knights and everyone else were Scottish spearmen in a schiltron (Evan). Then we split into groups, some tried on armour (which was really heavy!) and clothes that they wore while the others were on a tour and did a worksheet (Ruby).
