U11 Hockey vs cargilfield

Belhaven 0-9 Cargilfield

A good lesson learned!

Captained by Pandora, the girls were feeling the nerves for their first match from the moment they climbed onto the bus at Belhaven; apprehensive about only having had a handful of training sessions beforehand. Nevertheless, the girls were in high spirits and we set off on a chilly afternoon for Cargilfield.

Once the girls had warmed up, they took to their positions on the astro - ready for the starting whistle; as Cargilfield had won the toss they had the first centre. The first half saw both teams take a minute to settle into the match as careless errors were made on both sides. Having said this, the girls spaced themselves well on the pitch and made a number of good passes to each other. Jemima, Sophie and Pandora did well up front throughout the half, although they must remember use the wings to their advantage. Flora and Skye provided support for both the attack and defence in the mid-field although you must have more confidence to go in for tackles and put a little more pressure on the attacking moves. Susannah was strong in defence and made a number of super defensive moves to stop Cargilfield in their tracks, but a little more support from the others would have strengthened this even further.

The half-time whistle paused the score at 4-0, despite Amy intercepting a number of attempts at goal. A number of swaps brought Cleodie, Arianna and Dom into play and the game continued in a similar vain. All put in 100% throughout the second half, but unfortunately in vain, as the Cargilfield girls continued to put immense pressure of Belhaven and totalled a score of 9-0 at full time.

Not the best way to kick off the season girls - but we can certainly take a lot from the match to help us in our training sessions!

Man of the Match: Jemima.

Well done girls.

Miss. Graham
