Be Happy

Day

Day children are very welcome at Belhaven. Although the school has a reputation for being a leading boarding prep school, we have a material number of day pupils.

All of our seven year olds, the majority of our eight year olds and some older children are day children.

Our growing number of day children also take part fully in school life, benefiting from the many activities on offer and the full-on, all-round education that can only be provided with a' boarding ethos'.

"Seeing the grins on the pupils' faces at evening pick-up - both those going home and the majority who are heading in for supper ... To know one's child is part of such a happy school is a real joy." (Parent, Form 4)

In September 2013 Belhaven Hill started taking younger Day Pupils from age 7 (Form 6) for the first time. As well as working hard within the classroom, the children spend some of their lessons enjoying Belhaven’s lovely campus and benefit from our fun and varied outdoor education.

All of our day pupils benefit greatly from the full days and the rich experience of Belhaven’s all-round education and boarding ethos. As a result they are able to take part in most of what Belhaven has to offer in the way of sport and extra-curricular activities.

  • Please note that Belhaven Hill operates a bi-weekly boarding programme so all pupils will finish every other weekend on a Friday at 1.00 pm or occasionally 3.45 pm.
  • Younger siblings are always very welcome to stay later to facilitate pick up for parents with older children in the school.
  • We can accommodate day pupils for occasional boarding if there is a special occasion or parents are away.
  • As children grow older and want to spend more time with their friends, they are able to opt into boarding at any time to gain the full benefit of the school’s wealth of activities and spend even more time with their friends.
  • A mini-bus service is available for day pupils in Haddington (8am) and East Linton (8.15am). Transport is also available from both the Edinburgh and Duns areas if required.
