Maths
The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple. ~S. Gudder
The underlying aim of the department is to make Maths enjoyable and to teach it through understanding. Different teachers use a variety of methods and materials in order to bring the subject alive. Practical work is encouraged, computers used as teaching aids and investigations introduced when possible. Many topics are introduced at an early stage and extended as a child progresses through the school. Thus the different elements of the syllabus remain fresh in the mind and more demanding problems encountered. Every effort is made to ensure that children are confident and numerate. The use of calculators is restricted until Form 2 and even then there is regular practice of mental Maths. 17 x 23, anyone?
