Notes for Parents
Summer term 2010

Please note: We are no longer issuing the Calendar or Headmaster’s Newsletter in paper form. They are all to be found on the website.

Term begins for boarders on Tuesday 20th April at 5.30 p.m. and for day children on Wednesday 21st April at 8.30 a.m.

The Out Weekends start on Friday 30th April and 14th and 28th May at 3.45 p.m.

Boarders should return after weekends out and half term not later than 7.30 p.m. on the Sunday or for 8.30 a.m. on the Monday.

On In Weekends Day Pupils in Forms 1 to 4 are expected to attend school on the Saturday from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Half Term starts after Sports Day on 12th June and ends on Sunday 20th June.

Sports Day itself, to which parents, relatives and friends are cordially invited, will start at 11.00 a.m. with some athletics and a chance to visit exhibitions. At 1.00 p.m. approximately there will be bagpipes and a break for picnic lunch. Athletics will resume at 2.00 p.m. and the afternoon will finish with prize giving and tea at about 4.30. All day pupils should come in at 8.30 on the Saturday morning. Children should not be removed until after the end of prize giving. Unless otherwise informed we shall assume that parents will provide their children with picnic lunch.

Term ends on Wednesday 7th July. Children should be collected between 12.00 and 12.30.

Uniform is now available directly from Aitken and Niven, Mondays to Saturdays 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. www.aitken-niven.co.uk.
The Second Hand Uniform Shop is up and running and will be open on Monday 19th April from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment during the term time.

Parents are asked to ensure that the Matrons have a sufficiently large supply of name tapes for their children.

We comply with the English Cricket Board's directive that in all cricket involving a hard ball the batsmen and wicketkeeper must wear a helmet. Parents may choose to supply their children with their own helmets but we provide enough for each game.

Mr Peter Darbyshire will be giving weekly tennis coaching lessons: those who wish their children to take these lessons have already been given an opportunity to say so at the beginning of the school year. If there are any others, would they please let us know as soon as possible.

The subscriptions to Winterfield Golf Club are due at the beginning of term. Any child wishing to join or renew a subscription should contact Mr Harvey at the start of terrm.

It would be appreciated if parents would observe the rule that food and sweets should not be brought into the school. It is not conducive to either the health of children or the maintenance of discipline to flout the system in this regard.

Your attention is drawn to the fact that your children receive an E.C. Milk Subsidy through the IAPS Claiming Unit. This subsidy is received by the School and it enables us to buy extra dairy products for your children.

Roller blading If you wish your child to wear a helmet or protective clothing for roller blading/scootering you should supply it and instruct him/her to wear it.

N.B - Parents are reminded that they should check whether, where and at what time a match is taking place before setting off to watch their children.

The best times for speaking to members of the teaching staff during the day are usually about 11.00 a.m., 2.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.
