FORM 3 complete a survey at
john muir country park

On Saturday morning, Form 3 took a walk around John Muir Country Park as one of their first visits towards their John Muir Explorer Award. Having separated into two groups, one group undertook a survey of the types of litter they could find around the park on the major footpaths, whilst the other group observed and at times asked some of the People using the park, about why they used the park. They also observed people using the country code as they walked around.
Here is what they found out from their survey:
When we arrived at the car park there were 14 cars and 3 horse boxes and when we left there were 24 cars and 3 horse boxes.
People use the Country Park for:
Dog walking – 18 people Leisure walking – 12 people Horse Riders – 4 Running – 3 people

The group completing the litter survey noticed there was much more litter nearer the car park than anywhere else. They spotted all types of litter as they walked around the woodland.
There were:
1 large item 12 items made from plastic 4 drink cans 6 bottles made from glass 22 crsips/sweet packets 2 items of shoes/clothes 15 items made from paper 3 items of other rubbish
There was also a large amount of dog dirt spotted around the wood.
Future visits to the park will be to complete litter picks to help conserve the area and also to complete some fieldwork around one of the footpaths to investigate the plants and wildife.
