Boys' Hockey: U13b v Merchiston
U13b Boys’ Hockey:
Merchiston Castle 3 - 3 Belhaven Hill
This, the last match of the season for the U13b boys had somewhat of a surreal atmosphere surrounding it. With Ebola Elbows being rubbed and Wuhan shakes being bumped, and Mr. Curry’s insistence on playing Joy Division all the way to Edinburgh, this end-of-term affair had a very relaxed and odd feel.
Belhaven dominated the match and should have won by a bucketful. Alexander D. took us 1-0 to the good but an airswipe in defence (perhaps that should become another coronavirus greeting?) let Merchiston back into it. After half-time we were swiftly 2-1 down due to some uncommitted defending and we had to work hard to get back into the game eventually. Alexander M.’s low shot from a penalty corner finally broke the Merchy defence only for our own defence to shoot itself in the foot immediately afterwards as it sloppily allowed Merchiston to restore the one-goal advantage.
Thankfully our persistence paid off and Alexander M. shot high past the impressive Merchiston goalkeeper to bring us justly level. Despite trying to force the issue, the two Alexanders could not bring us the win our effort clearly merited, as shots rained down on the home goal but the ‘keeper was in inspired form and at times we were not clinical enough.
Man of the Match: Alexander D. for urgent wide-play.
