Design Technology

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity.”

Charles Mingus

At Belhaven Hill, Design Technology is taught to Forms 6, 5, 4 and 3. At the heart of DT education is the engagement of children with practical tasks that lead to products that serve a need, solve a problem or, in a word, ‘work’. To be successful at this, children need specific skills such as being able to measure and cut accurately and being able to work with other members of a team.

In Design Technology children will:

  • develop a capability that encompasses knowledge and understanding of appropriate concepts and processes.
  • be able to apply knowledge and skills by thinking and acting confidently, imaginatively, creatively and with sensitivity.
  • gain the ability to evaluate technological activities, artefacts and systems critically and constructively. The children will have the opportunity to look at the work of professional designers and engineers, reflect on these ideas and incorporate them into their designs.

Dream, design, create and discover a new you!
