Homemade Chess Sets

Forms 3 and 4 are busy fulfilling their latest DT project.

The Design Brief

'To research, develop, make and evaluate a chess set, on a theme,  from any available materials that they might have at home.'

Pupils have chosen themes ranging from World Wars, Gardens, Harry Potter and Arctic Sea Creatures to Emojis and Denis the Menace, and they have been very resourceful in using fusing corks, lids, self-drying clay and card from which to make their pieces.

Form 3

Form 4

The second part of the project has been a joint project with Computer Science. Pupils have worked in groups to design a chess set together. Groups have been encouraged to give their set a shared identity or characteristics, such as the shape of the base, height and style. Each pupil has been responsible for a different piece and has designed it using the Tinkercad software/app.

These pieces  are going to be made using the school's 3d printer and will replace some of the older chess sets currently in the games room. Results of the children's endeavours will be posted later.
