Learning Support

Learning Support

Learning Support at Belhaven is for all pupils; those who excel, those with identified needs and everybody in between. One of the joys of Belhaven is that small class numbers ensure no pupil slips through the net and every pupil who requires support can get it.

“Support for Learning is woven through the whole school’s approach to education
and the children’s development”

Belhaven Hill Parent

Pupils attending “The Hub” receive support with core literacy and numeracy skills, as well as emotional literacy, study skills, and support with any subject area proving a particular challenge at any given time. There is also in-class support and small group activities such as spelling, times tables and typing clubs on offer.

The Learning Support department works closely with external agencies including, but not limited to, speech and language therapists, an educational psychologist and a counsellor who visits the school once a week.

Learning Support is about enabling our pupils to be the best they can be and giving them the skills and strategies they need to excel in an increasingly demanding world.

The learning support and nurturing pastoral care is outstanding at Belhaven. Both my children have really needed a real wrap around comfort blanket of learning support and Mrs Leitch is a class act with her team on all fronts providing what is needed to boost and encourage the learning and confidence too at school and at home. I don't think there have been any stones left unturned in the quest to help our oldest feel more relaxed, happy and engaged in school life inside and outside the classroom.
